Our goal when we go to bed is to sleep and rest, and maybe dream. If the quality of sleep is not good, we wake up tired, feel sleepy during the day and the result is low performance and bad mood.
To sleep well we need some requirements, such as a bedroom at an appropriate temperature, dark and quiet, but also what we eat or drink affects sleep. It is known that drinks containing caffeine, such as tea, coffee and some soft drinks, put us in a state of alert and active, quite the opposite of what we intend when we go to sleep, but there are many other foods that, taken before going to bed, can also alter the quality of sleep for various reasons. For example, alcohol causes drowsiness, but sleep is so light that it is not repairing at all.
Kidneys don’t sleep while you sleep. They still make urine, and if you drink too much water before going to bed, you may wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.
Foods that are too salty or dry, such as potato chips or peanuts, become thirsty and will make your sleep restless or even wake you up to drink.
