Khoudia Diop
Often referred to as the Goddess Melanin, it has been a winding road that the model Khoudia Diop, only 22 years old, has had to travel. The French woman was bullied as a child because of her dark skin. Despite this, several people suggested that she should pursue a career in modeling. Since then, Diop has become a huge success, and by December 2019 the model had 538,000 followers on Instagram. “I want to show girls that it’s not bad to be dark,” she said. “Different is beautiful.”
Shankar Jalota
When Shankar Jalota was 15, he discovered a pair of small patches on his skin, one on his chest and one on his eye. While the young man was determined to hide this from his friends and family, he finally took on his vitiligo and has used it ever since as a springboard for his career. The Manchester Metropolitan University student is now a spokesperson for body positivity. “I’m trying to spread a message of bodily possibility to inspire others,” he said.
